American Pharmacists Association Wedding: Anjuli and John

Anji and John met with me in January to discuss photographing their wedding. Anji is a dear friend of the couple who are on the front of our website, and she remembered me from that wedding. Anji explained that she and John valued most their families and that their wedding would very much center around that value. Having met their families, I can understand why they are so close. Warmth, kindness and love was easy to spot in this group. Here's a lovely story that Anji shared:

"Anji and John met nine years ago in the summer of 2006. They were both working for then-U.S. Senator Clinton of New York. Anji was a health care case worker in Clinton's New York Senate office, and John worked at Clinton's Political Action Committee in Washington. John needed help joining the 9/11 health program (he had worked for FEMA at Ground Zero after September 11th), someone suggested he talk to Anji, and the two started a conversation that continues to this day. When Anji said she was moving to Washington to attend Georgetown Medical School, John offered to buy her a drink and show her around town. They met, hit it off, and became dear friends but nothing romantic developed. They developed a strong foundation in friendship, as they both journeyed through jobs, graduate school, and life events. In summer 2013, John was living in Bologna, Italy finishing his dissertation while Anji was in Washington serving as pediatrics chief resident at Georgetown. When John came to Washington for a visit, the two met for another drink, and this time dinner, and admitted their feelings for each other. Neither remembers exactly who said what first, but they both knew it was the start of something special. When Anji visited John in Italy that fall (their fourth date!), the two shared many adventures - an emergency room visit, a trip to Tuscany, a car breakdown, and great laughs and conversation through them all and over many delicious meals. After Anji's whirlwind visit to Italy, John sailed home at Christmas intent on life with Anji. On their first New Year's Day together, John and Anji took a walk downtown, shared black-eyed peas for good luck, and reflected on their year. They built a life together, supporting each other through the completion of our respective residency and dissertation. They got to know each other's friends and families. They traveled to Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Italy again, and New Jersey. On their second New Year's Day together, John suggested taking that same walk as part of a new tradition – he proposed to Anji on Memorial Bridge in Washington D.C. They are very excited to continue their lives together as husband and wife. They will honeymoon in Italy and live in Washington."

The site of their wedding, the American Pharmacists Association, was built by John's father, so it was a perfect spot for the couple to celebrate their vows.
